July 16, 2015 Obasanjo Opens Up: I Chose Yar’Adua to Stop A Corrupt Man Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he chose the late former President Umaru Yar’ Adua as his successor because the others who wanted to take over from him were very corrupt. Obasanjo said one of the people who wanted to succeed him in 2007 was “stinkingly corrupt” and that the only way he (Obasanjo) could justify himself before man and God was to go for Yar’Adua, who, he said, was the only one among the contenders then who was not corrupt. Among the prominent presidential hopefuls in the Peoples Democratic Party in 2007 were Obasanjo’s deputy, Abubakar Atiku; and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili. Atiku later abandoned the PDP to contest the presidential election on the platform of the defunct Action Congress while Odili’s ambition fizzled out with the nomination of Yar’Adua. But the former President, who spoke in an interview with a private television station, Channels Tel...

July 16, 2015 President Obama to Break US Tradition Because of Buhari In demonstration of his readiness to forge closer ties with Nigeria, United States President Barack Obama will be breaking his administration’s tradition when President Muhammadu Buhari arrives in Washington D.C. on a state visit on Monday next week. The American leader will host President Buhari as his personal guest at the Blair House, the official guest house of the American president right opposite the White House, for three days. This is a clear departure from the American government’s attitude to visiting heads of state, particularly Nigerian leaders. It is also a demonstration of Obama’s admiration of President Buhari and a thumbs-up for the Nigerian leader’s acclaimed frugal lifestyle and disdain for ostentation. The decision to host President Buhari in the official guest house of the US president will not only cut down the cost of the trip, but also allow time for informal discussions...

Lol! A pastor at the Christian Proctor Church in Vermont, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison after he refused to marry a gay couple. The Honorable Myron Danus handed down the harsh sentence. “Religious freedom goes both ways, Mr. Horner,” Danus told a packed courtroom. “It is not your place to deny individuals the same rights that everyone else has, rights that were passed down and agreed upon in a court of law, the ultimate court, the Supreme Court. It is not your decision whether or not you agree with the law but more importantly that you follow it and enforce it .” The Pastor, 56-year-old Paul Horner, had his lawyer speak to reporters on his behalf: “We are currently disputing the guilty verdict an...
