Outrage over Wike’s demolition of multi-million naira hotels

Condemnation on Sunday greeted the demolition of two hotels by the Rivers State government in Port Harcourt for allegedly flouting the lockdown rules.                                      One of the demolished hotels Activisist, lawyers and opinion leaders in the state faulted the action, which Governor Nyesom Wike personally supervised as “unfair.” Wike had vowed to pull down hotels found to be rendering services and buildings whose shops opened for business during the lockdown. The Prodest Hotel Alode in Eleme and Edemeteh Hotel in Onne were reported to have contravened the order. They were pulled down. The government also declared wanted Princewill Osaroejiji, owner of Etemeteh Hotel and placed N5million bounty on his head, available for whoever could supply information on his whereabouts. NCDC driver tests positive in Nasarawa

A DISPATCH driver with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Nasarawa State has tested positive with COVID-19. This brings the number of confirmed cases in the state to 12 with one death. Governor Abdullahi Sule announced this yesterday during an expanded security meeting at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital. He said the driver, who lived at Ado in Karu Local Government Area of the state and worked in Abuja, had been the one conveying samples of suspected cases to the testing collection centres. The governor said government’s response team was tracking the 74 contacts of the House of Assembly member who died from Coronavirus pandemic. The Nation gathered that Suleiman Adamu, the lawmaker who represented Nasarawa Central, on Thursday, April 30, 2020, died of COVID-19. Nigeria not ruling out local herbs for COVID-19 treatment

Minister of Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire said on Tuesday that the government has not ruled out the possibility of using local herbs to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. But he insisted that the Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development must first certify their efficacy.
