Police in Kano State have arrested a 32-year-old woman, Fati Umar Dikko, of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Gwale LGA, who had specialised in defrauding people in Kano and environs. Spokesman of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement. He said police received complaints from many people that a woman went to their shops in different addresses and made transactions and sent them fake alerts. Kiyawa said following a credible intelligence report, the police succeeded in arresting the suspect while trying to collect another material she bought using a fake credit alert. He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect specialized in showing fake alerts to her victims. Kiyawa said the suspect confessed to the crime and had defrauded many people of millions of Naira. He said the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation. LIS New

Ameer Bakoura Buduma, leader of the Boko Haram faction led by late Abubakar Shekau, has appointed a deputy for himself. Mallam Tahiru Damboa is now the ‘Jaysh’, second in command. Buduma, a Chadian, is supervising Lelewa, a border area between Nigeria and Niger Republic. Several foot soldiers have been dispatched to dominate a forest close to Rigachikun in Kaduna. More than 200 people died of Covid-19 in a single day for just the second time in six months.  Official figures show 203 people died yesterday within 28 days of a positive test. There were 31,564 new confirmed coronavirus cases and a further 861 people were admitted to hospital with the virus.  The death count is the second highest since early March, after 207 died at the start of September. Both deaths and hospitalisations from Covid appear to have returned to March levels.  A number of key indicators reveal the pandemic situation is similar to the end of the winter wave, with cases remaining persistently high despite the progress of the vaccine rollout.   According to data published by the Office for National Statistics, 159,000 people in the UK have died of Covid.
